Kwalipikasyon: Bukas sa lahat ng nagsisimulang manunulat sa wikang Filipino; sa alin mang anyo: tula, maikling kuwento o maikling kuwentong pambata.


Mga Kakailanganin:

1. Akda (12 points, doble-espasyo, 8x11) ng alin man sa mga sumusunod:

- limang (5) tula; o

- dalawang (2) maikling kuwento (10 - 20 pahina kada kuwento); o

- dalawang (2) maikling kuwentong pambata (5-7 pahina kada

kuwento).

2. Maikling tala sa sarili.

3. Larawan (2x2, may kulay).

CALL FOR MANUSCRIPTS TO THE 49TH SILLIMAN UNIVERSITY NATIONAL WRITERS WORKSHOP

The Silliman University National Writers Workshop is now accepting applications for the 49th National Writers Workshop to be held 3-21 May 2010 in Dumaguete City.

This Writers Workshop is offering fifteen fellowships to promising young writers who would like a chance to hone their craft and refine their style. Fellows will be provided housing, a modest stipend, and a subsidy to partially defray costs of their transportation.

To be considered, applicants should submit manuscripts in English on or before 19 March 2010 (seven to ten poems; or three to five short stories; or three to five creative non-fiction essays). Manuscripts should be submitted in hard copy and on CD, preferably in MS Word, together with a resume, a recommendation letter from a literature professor or a writer of national standing, a notarized certification that the works are original, and two 2X2 ID pictures.

UBOD New Authors Named


The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Ateneo Institute for Literary Arts and Practices (AILAP) have finalized the list of accepted new authors for the project entitled UBOD: The New Authors Series II. This creative endeavor had its first inception back in 2005, when the chapbooks of forty (40) new authors from different parts of the country were launched at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

For this year, fourteen (14) authors from different regions were chosen to have their literary works published as chapbooks. These new authors are: Sherma Espino Benosa (Short story, Iluko), Aida Campos Tiama (Poetry, Iluko), Christoffer Mitch Cerda (Short Story, Tagalog), Mar Anthony Simon dela Cruz (Short Story, Tagalog), Marlon Hacla (Poetry, Tagalog), Francisco Arias Montesena (Poetry, Tagalog), Jerome Hipolito (Poetry, Bikol), Adrian V. Remodo (Poetry, Bikol), Jay Gallera Malaga (Poetry, Hiligaynon), JV Perez (Short Story, Hiligaynon), Leonilo Lopido (Poetry, Waray), Phil Harold Mercurio (Poetry, Waray), Janis Claire B. Salvacion (Poetry, Waray), and Noel P. Tuazon (Poetry, Binisaya-Sugbuanon).

The authors were selected by a prestigious pool of readers/editors/translators and themselves, accomplished writers, such as, Cles Rambaud, Eli Rueda Guieb III, Michael M. Coroza, Kristian S. Cordero, Timothy R. Montes, John Iremil Teodoro and Merlie M. Alunan. Dr. Soledad Reyes will be the general editor of the collection. Details on the launching of the chapbooks are to follow.

Nagpadausdos sa hagdan ng foot bridge sa Tandang Sora kanina. Putikan ang katawan ko. Lessons:

1) Wag magsusuot ng Banana Peel na tsinelas kapag umuulan.

2) Kumapit sa hawakan, kahit na marumi (maghugas na lang nang mabuti later).

3) Tingnan ang nilalakaran, huwag dumaldal sa kasama kapag bumababa sa madulas na foot bridge.

Sa MMDA: Please lang, lagyan na ng bubong ang mga overpass!

Phil Animal Welfare Soc Needs Help Rescue Animals

PAWS is asking help regarding their rescue operation in flood-stricken areas of Marikina. Here’s a text message sent to a friend last night:

“Help us announce to people in Marikina that they can bring their animals to PARC or PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center (higher ground) just to save them from flood waters. We can be evacuation center but we need more roofed cages and the owners need to leave their complete contact information with us. – Anna Cabrera of Phil. Animal Welfare Society”

Hyperimbyerna sa Hypermarket

Sinita ako ng lady guard no’ng papasok na ako sa SM Hypermarket sa SM North. May suot kasi akong backpack at dire-diretso lang ako sa loob. Winarningan na ako ni Boots na sisitahin daw ako ‘pag di ko dineposit ang bag. E, ang dami kayang tao sa loob na may malalaking bag, so in-assume ko na lang, pwede ang bag ko.

Lady Guard: Ser, pakiiwan na lang po ang bag sa counter.
Ako: Bakit ang ilang tao sa loob, may dala-dalang bag. Ang lalaki pa.
Lady Guard: E, kasi po, backpack ang sa inyo.
Ako: Pa’no kung magdala ako ng sling bag na sinlaki ng sako, okey lang ‘yon?

Bihira akong mag-snap sa harap ng maraming tao, pero di ko na napigilan. Pinalampas ko na lang, kesa naman gumawa pa ako ng eksena.

Sa loob, tingin ako nang tingin sa mga bag ng mga naggo-grocery. Sinusukat kung mas malaki sa backpack ko. Panay ang reklamo ko kay Boots na maraming bag ang mas malaki sa bag ko. Natatawa siya dahil hindi sa pamimili ako naka-focus, kundi sa pagsusukat ng mga bag. Meron pa ngang isa, may dalang travel bag. Kumusta naman ‘yon? Dahil medyo pormal ang suot nila? Dahil makinis ang balat nila? Dahil mukhang mayaman sila? Dahil mukhang di sila magnanakaw?

Samantalang ako, porke nakashorts lang at nakatsinelas at kita ang maugat at maalikabok na paa, di na dapat pagkatiwalaan at kelangang ipaiwan ang maliit na backpack sa counter?
